Description


PURPOSE:

The Production Maintenance Technician supports Gentex manufacturing operations by providing technical support in the development, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of manufacturing processes, equipment, and facility services.


  

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical support for manufacturing equipment used in the manufacturing of textile components.
  • Complete equipment preventive maintenance as required by schedule. 
  • Setup and validation of production sewing machines including traditional and programmable sewing machines.
  • Provide troubleshooting and repair of production fixtures and equipment.
  • Manage, organize, and maintain production tools and fixtures 
  • Support and act as focal point for equipment preventive maintenance and calibration within the textiles area.
  • Contact suppliers and contractors as needed for the procurement, evaluation and repair of tools, supplies, and equipment.
  • Obtain quotes and submit necessary purchase requisitions to support the production floor. 
  • Work with facility maintenance to understand, educate, and enforce safety standards across the production floor.
  • Conduct weekly audits for safety and report findings directly to Facilities Manager.
  • Contribute to development of improved assembly methods and production flow in a lean manufacturing environment.
  • Schedule flexibility to support critical deadlines may be required.
  • Work with others in the Production Maintenance department as needed on tasks outside the textiles department. 

     

Requirements


EDUCATION AND/OR PROFESSIONAL LICENSE(s):

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Trade school and/or some college preferred.


EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years’ experience in manufacturing environment with an emphasis on textiles.
  • 5+ years’ experience with general setup and repair of textiles equipment but not limited to sewing machines.
  • Demonstrated history performing basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting of textiles equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure to resolve technical issues to support and maintain manufacturing schedules.
  • Lean manufacturing or equivalent experience preferred.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Effective communication skills across different disciplines both verbal and written.
  • Mechanical skills with maintenance and troubleshooting of textiles equipment and associated machinery
  • Basic understanding of electricity.
  • Experience with Preventive Maintenance Software or equivalent preferred

CONTACT WITH OTHERS:

  • Internal: Position requires routine contact with all Gentex personnel. The Process Technician may be required to supervise other personnel in the execution of their tasks.
  • External: The position requires routine contact with vendors, suppliers, contractors, customers, representatives of regulating bodies and others as business requires.


PHYSICAL/MENTAL/COMMUNICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The individual must have a high level of comprehension, and a high level of general, verbal, written, and numerical intelligence.



WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Works majority of the day in a climate-controlled environment, with the exception of or otherwise specified, performing work in the warehouse or manufacturing areas which are subject to changes in temperature and/or noise.



TRAVEL:

Generally, travel is not required



LOCATION:

Gentex’s Carbondale facility is located in Northeastern Pennsylvania in Lackawanna County. Carbondale, PA is about twenty miles north of Scranton, PA, 50 miles south of Binghamton, NY, and about 125 miles from New York City and Philadelphia. The area hosts numerous nearby state parks, nature preserves and local colleges and universities, including The University of Scranton and Marywood University.
