Salary Range:  CL 30-01 to CL 30-61, $112,464-$182,814 depending on qualifications

Position Overview: 
The United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit invites applications for a permanent Staff Attorney in the Motions Unit of the Staff Attorney’s Office to advise the court on disposition of motions and assist in the supervision of staff law clerks. The Staff Attorney’s responsibilities include preparing and presenting to judges recommended dispositions of both routine and complex motions including requests for emergency or extraordinary relief, assisting in the training and supervision of non-career staff law clerks in the Motions Unit, and coordinating with the staff of the Clerk of Court on motions, case management, and other procedural matters. The Staff Attorney will work with and report to the Supervisory Staff Attorney for Motions and may serve as acting supervisor.

Job Requirements and Qualifications

Qualifications:
The successful applicant will be part of a highly collegial and hard-working team dedicated to meeting the exacting standards of legal excellence required for the work of the court. Applicants must have excellent academic credentials and superior analytical, research, writing, editing, organizational, and time-management skills. They must also be knowledgeable about federal procedural and substantive law. Experience as a law clerk or staff attorney in the Federal Judiciary or a State supreme court is desirable and specific experience handling appellate motions is highly desirable. Applicants must have a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-approved law school, three or more years of legal practice experience, and bar membership.

Compensation

Benefits:
