Director of Construction

Location: San Jose, CA
Compensation: $170,000–$220,000 base salary + annual bonus potential
Additional Compensation & Benefits: Vehicle allowance, health/dental/vision, 401(k)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Director of Construction to lead and scale construction operations for our single-family and multifamily residential projects throughout the Bay Area. This role is responsible for end-to-end execution of multiple developments, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest quality and safety standards.

This is a senior leadership role that partners closely with executive leadership, development, design, and external stakeholders to drive operational excellence across the construction function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and day-to-day leadership for all construction activities across single-family and multifamily projects

  • Oversee project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution from pre-construction through close-out

  • Manage and mentor Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams

  • Establish and enforce construction standards, processes, and best practices

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal building codes, safety regulations, and environmental requirements

  • Lead subcontractor and vendor selection, contract negotiations, and performance management

  • Monitor project costs and schedules, proactively identifying risks and implementing corrective actions

  • Collaborate with development, architecture, engineering, and sales teams to align construction with overall business objectives

  • Maintain strong relationships with inspectors, municipalities, and third-party consultants

  • Drive continuous improvement in quality, efficiency, safety, and cost control

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 10+ years of progressive construction leadership experience, with significant exposure to single-family and/or multifamily residential construction

  • Proven experience managing multiple large-scale residential projects simultaneously

  • Strong knowledge of Bay Area building codes, permitting processes, and subcontractor markets

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and deliver projects on schedule

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills

  • Proficiency with construction management software and scheduling tools

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $170,000–$220,000 (commensurate with experience)
