Description

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Education Coordinator is responsible for ensuring in assisting in development, implementation, professional development and monitoring of the education component through supervision of classroom staff. The position will develop relationships with local school districts and Head Start programs to coordinate transition services. 

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Provide support to Early Head Start and Child Care staff.
  • Maintain adequate equipment to operate and effective education program.
  • Visit the classrooms and staff for the purposes of observation, supervision, monitoring and training. 
  • Monitor education paperwork and documentation completed by teaching staff including lesson plans, observations, CDA, school readiness goals, transitions, home- visits, and parent teacher conferences.
  • Plan, coordinate and carry out training events with staff and all components of the program.
  • Assist teaching staff on designated screening and assessment of children and assist in implementing results in the classrooms.
  • Assist teachers in developing daily activities and lesson plans around child outcomes.
  • Plan orientation for substitutes, new staff and volunteers.
  • Work with teaching staff to develop professional development plans.
  • Participate in and coordinate services with Disability Coordinator and other staff to support families with Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSP) and Individualized Education Plans (IEP), as requested. 
  • Assist teachers to stay in compliance with the education component of DHS Licensing Requirements and Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Participate in annual self-assessment and community assessment.
  • Participate in the annual update of Early Head Start grant.
  • Hold meetings with preschool teachers, childcare providers, and Head Start to promote partnerships and discuss transition activities.
  • Participate in professional development as requested by Early Head Start Director.
  • Be knowledgeable of federal, state, and tribal regulations.
  • Knowledgeable for and responsible for the implementation of Head Start Performance Standards and aware of programs’ mission and goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education, or Bachelor’s in another field with coursework equivalent to major related to Early Childhood Education.
  • Experience and/or training in Education programs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of culturally diverse populations and their needs.
  • Must be able to read, understand, apply and retain knowledge of departmental rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, in writing and verbally, with individuals and groups of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to use data to analyze issues and present recommended solutions, identify opportunities, and measure improvement.
  • Ability to communicate sensitive or controversial information directly and respectfully.
  • Skills in aligning activities and resources with the mission and strategy of the program.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point) and internet resources.
