Job Summary

As a member of senior-level management, administers all accounting activities, such as financial statements, budgets, accounts payable/receivables and payroll as well as general ledger and fixed assets and the associated controls of recording and maintaining of financial data.

Essential Job Duties 

  1. Participates in formulating policy procedure and controls.
  2. Administers all accounting activities within the policies and procedures of the organization.
  3. Responsible for compliance with the standards set out by Federal, State, and Local agencies.
  4. Responsible for the accurate and timely filing of informational returns and tax forms required by all Federal, State, and Local agencies, including Form 5500 for MBCH Benefits Plans.
  5. Responsible for updating and maintaining the Tax Rate Distribution Agreement (TRDA) with the IRS, assisting with IRS TRDA Audit held every five years.
  6. Controls authorized access to the accounting systems.
  7. Maintains the Chart of Accounts.
  8. Responsible for the preparation of operational and capital budgets for the Finance Department. Assist with preparation of operational and capital budgets for all other departments.
  9. Responsible for meeting internal and external Financial Statements deadlines.
  10. Responsible for organizing all financial reviews with operating departments.
  11. Is acting Finance Director or CFO when Finance Director or CFO is not on property.
  12. Review and research any accounting matters.
  13. Prepares Tribal Distribution.
  14. Communicates and networks effectively with staff, other departments, and outside representatives in order to maintain a productive and effective department operation.
  15. Safeguard and account for the assets of the owners.
  16. Comply with policies and procedures required by the department, the company, the Sac & Fox Gaming Commission, and the National Indian Gaming Commission.
  17. Monitor the casino environment and follow established safety procedures to provide for the safety of guests and co-workers. 
  18. Work respectfully and effectively as part of the company team to ensure guest satisfaction, asset protection, and co-worker respect.

Supplemental Job Duties 

  1. Report to work on time and as required in professional attire, display a high level of personal cleanliness and follow personal appearance standards.
  2. Conducts personnel hiring, reviews and training.
  3. Oversees personnel actions of direct reports within the Finance Department.
  4. May verify transactions over $500 when necessary.
  5. Maintains contact with suppliers and equipment manufacturers that could ultimately improve operations and performance.
  6. Establishes and maintains communications with established banking institutions.
  7. Cooperates and assist internal and external Auditors obtain required information and schedules.
  8. Attends all required meetings and training sessions, can work all shifts and weekends.
  9. Backs up and supports the Casino Controller position as needed.
  10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. 

Supervisory Responsibilities 

This position will have the authority to; make decisions necessary for carrying out the above listed job duties, hire, terminate, promote, demote, transfer, provide training opportunities, approve wage increases, evaluate performance, create and adjust performance standards, create and/or delegate staff scheduling, invoke disciplinary action, approve purchasing requests and authorize expenditures within approved guidelines and/or budgetary limits. This position may have other supervisory authority assigned as necessary through management. This position has the authority, through proper channels, to procure any supplies and or equipment needed for the operation of the department. This position is responsible for the Accounting Manager, and Staff Accountants as assigned by the Finance Director or CFO. This position has signatory authority for all controlled logs, daily cash summaries, cage cash inventory, and complimentary – room and/or meal.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions 

Normal office environment along with frequent computer use. At times, will require occasional standing and speaking. Exposure to a smoke filled environment with loud and continual noise levels. Must be confidential.

Minimum Job Qualifications: 

Knowledge/Education/Work Experiences: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting or Finance, plus four (4) or more years' experience in accounting.  CPA or MBA preferred.  Requires two (2) years of supervisory experience. Must have knowledge of Title 31 requirements and the Federal Minimum Internal Control Standards (MICS). Must be able to obtain a gaming license in accordance to the regulations established by the Sac & Fox Gaming Commission. 

Skills/Abilities: Requires excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills and must be accurate with assignments and able to meet deadlines. Must be able to handle busy and stressful situations. Must be flexible with work shifts and days off. Must have the ability to work with little or no supervision. Must be able to meet all internal supervisory or higher, training and education requirements. Must have well-developed financial analysis and management skills. Requires strong computer skills.
