The Chief of Police is an exempt position appointed by the Mayor with the approval of a majority of the Village Board of Trustees. The Chief reports to the Village Administrator and works closely with Village staff to prevent and suppress crime, protect life and property, enforce laws and ordinances, and preserve the peace.
The Chief of Police is the chief executive officer of the department and the final departmental authority on all matters of policy, operations, and discipline. The Chief is responsible for planning, budgeting, staffing, directing, coordinating, and controlling all department functions and activities; maintaining safe working conditions and overseeing compliance with the Village's safety procedures and policies; ensuring the continued efficient and effective operation of the department; and maintaining positive relations with the citizens of Mundelein, the Village government, and other agencies.
