The part-time police officer serves as law enforcement at all three campuses of the First Baptist Church of Glenarden.  The incumbent conducts investigations of incidents reported on the shift, interacts with the church and community, and provides the church community with safety information as needed. The police officer realizes that the community’s perception of the diligence and cordiality, the way they serve the community and direct the flow of traffic, directly impacts the image of FBCG in the community.  The incumbent must be prepared to regularly work on Tuesdays, Fridays and/or Sundays, and provide support to special events.  They must be flexible to adapt to the needs of the ministry.  This position reports to the police detail coordinator.


DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct full performance level of law enforcement work.
  • Serves as good will ambassadors to the community on behalf of FBCG.
  • Provides personal protection and congregation security.
  • Fulfills the Pastor’s commitment that FBCG would be a good neighbor to the surrounding communities.
  • Helps secure the offering.
  • Ensures security of funds by transporting funds for deposit.
  • Directs traffic and assists with traffic and crowd control. 
  • Provides support in the event of an emergency during a worship service or event.
  • Provides support related to events and activities of the ministry.
  • Fingerprints ministry volunteers during quarterly fingerprinting sessions and as needed.
  • Conducts after hours parking lot monitoring as needed by the church.
  • Provides escort service for special events and special guests.
  • Monitors police radio and radio provided by FBCG.
  • Attends roll call and/or meetings as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Pastor and the assigned supervisory structure.


REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

  • Must be able to submit to authorities as defined by the Pastor. 
  • Must possess a gracious, Christ-like demeanor in demanding situations. 
  • Must have an understanding and appreciation for the ministry and the mission of FBCG. 


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have a Servant’s Heart and be able to submit to authorities as defined by the Pastor.
  • High School or equivalent education. 
  • One year minimum experience in Law Enforcement and authorized to work part-time by their respective law enforcement agency. 
  • Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license. Completion of Basic Law Enforcement Academy. 
  • Currently employed at an authorized Maryland Police Department. 
  • Successfully complete a background investigation.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Must be willing and able to physically defend visitors, volunteers, staff members, and/or FBCG property from harm, mistreatment, vandalism, theft or other harmful acts.  
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 50 lbs. 
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time. 
  • CPR Certification required and must be able to deliver 5 rounds of chest compressions and rescue breaths continuously when necessary.
  • Must have access to and authorization to use a duty vehicle while working for FBCG
