JOB SUMMARY:

Rochester Midland Corporation is seeking a versatile Systems & Network Engineer to join our IT team. In this hybrid role, you will be the primary architect and guardian of our on-premise infrastructure. You will balance traditional System Administration with core Network Engineering, ensuring our Microsoft-centric environment is high-performing, secure, and resilient.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Key Responsibilities

1. Systems Administration (40%)

  • Microsoft Ecosystem Management: Administer Windows Server environments, Active Directory/GPO, and Office 365 integration.
  • Virtualization: Manage and optimize our on-premise server footprint (VMware), ensuring high availability and resource efficiency.
  • Storage & Backup: Maintain enterprise storage solutions (SAN/NAS) and lead disaster recovery (DR) testing and backup verification.

2. Network Engineering (40%)

  • Infrastructure Design: Configure and maintain core switching, routing, and wireless infrastructure across our facilities.
  • Connectivity: Manage Site-to-Site VPNs and remote access solutions to ensure seamless connectivity for our distributed workforce.
  • Performance Tuning: Monitor network traffic and bandwidth to identify bottlenecks and implement proactive optimizations.

3. Security & Compliance (20%)

  • Perimeter Defense: Manage enterprise firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and content filtering.
  • Vulnerability Management: Lead patch management cycles for servers and network gear; ensure endpoint protection is deployed and updated.
  • Access Control: Maintain the principle of least privilege through robust IAM (Identity and Access Management) practices.

EDUCATION/ SPECIAL LICENSES OR CERTIFICATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience.

EXPERIENCE: 

  • 5+ years of experience as a Systems and Network engineer or similar experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server and Active Directory, Azure AD /Entra is nice to have.
  • Scripting and automation experience, e.g. PowerShell or Python.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server administration.
  • Strong grasp of TCP/IP, VLANs, DHCP/DNS, and Firewall management.
  • Experience with enterprise-grade hardware (HPE, Dell, or Cisco).

SKILLS:

  • Strong organizational and attention to detail
  • Effective problem-solving skills to overcome challenges.
  • Ability to talk to business leaders in collaboration surrounding design, architecture and delivery of multi-faceted solutions.
  • Good understanding of IAM (Identity and access management) tools and protocols
  • Strong administrative level experience with Microsoft 365
  • Good understanding of AI usage, e.g. CoPilot.
