Position Overview This is a unique opportunity to combine essential clinical duties with specialized diagnostic care. In this role, you will be a key player in our patient care cycle, managing traditional MA responsibilities alongside specialized Urodynamic procedures.

This position offers a consistent, flexible schedule of 2–3 days per week (16–24 hours total) with no evenings, no weekends, and no on-call requirements.

Understanding the Urodynamic Procedure A Urodynamic study is a series of tests that evaluate how well the bladder, sphincters, and urethra are storing and releasing urine. It acts as a "stress test" for the bladder to help diagnose causes of incontinence or frequent urination.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Clinical Support: Rooming patients, capturing chief complaints, and ensuring an efficient clinic flow.
• Procedural Preparation: Calibrating equipment, explaining the study to patients to ease anxiety, and ensuring all consents are signed.
• Hands-on Assistance: You will be responsible for the safe insertion of small catheters for pressure sensing and placing EMG electrodes to measure pelvic floor muscle activity.
• Data Collection & Monitoring: During the filling phase, you will operate the specialized software, monitor the pump, and communicate with the patient to record sensations like "first urge" or "fullness."
• Post-Procedure Care: Assisting patients after testing, documenting all findings accurately in the EMR for physician review, and sanitizing equipment.

Schedule & Locations

• Work-Life Balance: 2–3 days per week (Monday–Friday). Shifts start as early as 6:30 AM and end by 6:00 PM.

What You Bring to the Team

• Education: Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program with a valid MA Diploma.
• Experience: Previous MA experience is required.
• Technical Skills: Experience with catheter care and maintenance is a major plus. Proficiency in injections, lab tasks, and EMR charting is required.
• Specialization: While urology experience is preferred, we are willing to train the right candidate on Urodynamic procedures.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Urodynamics Technician performs specialized investigative techniques using highly advanced urodynamic measuring equipment on patients with Genito-urinary problems to study, record and assist the Physician/ARNP/PA in the diagnosis and treatment of urological disorders; and assists in office procedures with various urology treatments under the direction of a Urologist. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION/COMPETENCIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Operates, calibrates, and performs minor maintenance on electronic urodynamic equipment.
• Ensures that urodynamic machines are functioning and accurate prior to daily patient appointments.
• Prepares and arranges instruments, towels, solutions, and other supplies for urodynamic appointments.
• Prepares patients and assists professional staff in performing a variety of urodynamic tests and related Genito-urinary procedures including cystoscopies, bladder hyperthermia, and vasectomies, in addition to operating the machines.
• Responsible for catheterization of assigned patients under aseptic, atraumatic conditions observes condition of patients and reports unusual conditions.
• Acts as a resource person to professional staff on the use of urodynamic machines relative to the needs and characteristics of individual cases.
• Schedules appointments and main laboratory tests and calls the Outpatient Department to verify appointments. Reschedules patient appointments as needed.
• Set up specific urodynamic evaluation procedures, such as collecting urine samples, administering urinary catheterizations, and inserting drainage tubes (such as indwelling catheters).
• Assists in lifting patients and assists wheelchair patients to stand or walk short distances.
• Sterilizes equipment as required.
• Carries out oral instructions and written doctor's orders including preparing and administer medications with physician authorization .
• Explains to patients’ particular procedures undergone. Inform the patient on pre- and post- procedure expectation.
• Reads available literature and studies done in the field of Urodynamics to keep informed of developments in the technology and the methods.
• Participates in educational activities.
• Articulate what took place during the study and document with clarity to the physician.
• Have a good understanding of bladder/bowel function and able to determine the cause of urinary tract and bowel distress in male and female patients.
• Manage materials inventory and maintain the status of equipment and supplies.
• Set up for testing with the proper supplies to perform the study.
• Assess patient and identify if there are any contraindications to the patient having the urodynamic/ARM study performed. Exp: not limited to UTI, Patient in distress or pregnancy bowel surgeries.
• Act as team player: collaborate, communicate clearly, and cooperate with clinicteam members with focus on mission and goals.
• Know how to situate the patients in a special chair without compromising patient safety.
• Understand deviation from the norm and how it differs from artifact.
• Understand that data quality of the test and subsequent prescribed treatments are dependent upon the direct communication to the patient of what is expected during the study.
• While conducting the test, document all relevant events and simultaneously interpret them.
• Assist in maintaining patient logs for Lab requests, CT scans and other treatment orders for the patients along with prescripiton ledger when needed.
• The UDT will perform various administrative and clinical duties under the direction of their assigned direct supervisor .
• Phlebotomy and collection of other lab specimens .
• Performs basic lab test and performs EKG's.
• Assists with X-ray and physician therapy procedures.
• Prepares and administers medications with physician authorization.
• Changes dressings, applies bandages, removes sutures and other first aid procedures.
• Prepares accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times
• Assists with procedures using anesthesia (e.g., Urolift, Rezum).
• Perform basic triage per specific office and clinical protocol procedures.
• This position may provide limited support in related areas such as patient navigation, scheduling coordination, or clinical administrative tasks, not to exceed 20% of the role.
• Performs other position related duties as assigned.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES OR REGISTRY REQUIREMENTS

• Licensed Practical Nurse or Certified Medical Assistant.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Graduate of Medical Assisting program required.
• LPN position: graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Associates preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum of 1 year of experience preforming UDS studies, preferable.
• Must be a Medial Assistant with a minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in a physician office setting preferably within the Urology, Gynecology or Urogynecology specialties.
